Chaos into Matter: The Interior

Red satin 100m, sewing machine, table and seamstress, 5 photographs.
Dimensions variable
2001

A meditation on internal and external landscapes, following a research period in Iceland. The Interior is the internal landscape of Iceland that is wild and mostly uninhabitable lava fields, volcanos and glaciers. Digitally coloured photographs indicate how every hill, river, crossing, island or rock represents one of the forces of nature sunk into matter. Whilst a seamstress, back turned, totally absorbed, continually stitches together torn strips of red satin to form a fabric landscape.
