Dispersal (Change of a Dress)

Strewn across the bare floorboards of the gallery, a secondhand child’s red velvet dress is transformed in its entirety into buttons, including the seams, even the label. Made during a residency and exhibited in the year of the overthrow of Milosevi, following the Nato intervention in the war conflict in Kosovo in 1999 and the Serbian/Bosnian civil wars in the 1990’s and the disintegration of the former Yugoslavia after the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989 and the collapse of the Eastern bloc.
